Today I learnt how to draw an eye and do a basic anamorphic drawing from YouTube!

Living with cats
Ellie, the black and white cat is the only cat I have at the moment . She is the result of hours spent browsing through Cat Welfare Society's adoption board with the insistence that I was "just looking, not adopting" after my previous cats went to kitty heaven. So while I'm here, let me leave a public message, ADOPT, DON'T BUY! If you've seen what I seen at the animal shelters, you would never buy a dog or cat from a pet shop again.

I've swopped my brushes
For balloons and my mixer. 'tis the annual bake season in the kitchen cos I really don't know what to get for people. Churned out my standard valhona fudge cake and some blackberry tarts yesterday. The attemts at balloon sculpture (which look like troubled intestines, as my friend pointed out) are for a Christmas party at a student care centre tomorrow.

City
Packing up some of my sketchbooks to make space on my messy table. This little sketch is dated July 2010. I love little buildings and I'll buy a book for a single scene like this.

Bird on paperclip
Been experimenting a lot with pencil and shading recently. Always had a phobia of still life but armed with my trusty Faber castell 3B, kneaded eraser and some YouTube videos, shading is starting to become interesting. Though I still find it extremely difficult to see dark and light and shadows! This is my very first pencil and paint piece. Still kind of raw but not as bad as I feared.

Reference material
Some of my pickings from the national library. Ive always been attracted to children's books. Such a treasure trove of art that is so overlooked. Anything that looks silly and has skewed perspective is definitely a hit with me.
Lego, the art of the brick
Some pics from Saturday's venture to the Lego sculpture exhibit at the Singapore arts science museum. I want a giant Lego crayola in pink!!!

Update!
Various postal services were kept busy with my packages today. Some lovely shimmer die-cuts and books by two of my favourite illustrators, Alison Jay and Anna Walker. (ok ok, and my phone straps as well).
Many many ideas and very very little time!
Secret orders for pet paintings have also been coming in so there will probably be a bumper posting after Christmas when there is no danger that the recipients might prematurely stumble upon their christmas pressies!
How embarassing. Just found out that I didnt copy my links correctly. All that's sorted out now!

Customized doggie in watercolor
This is Nano the spitz. It was supposed to be a simple painting but it somehow ended up like this!
I'm starting to see quite a visible difference between my paintings in August and my paintings now. More refined looking, which is not always the look I'm going for, but my pencil and brush are taking on a life of their own...However, I'm still keeping one of my signature looks, which is the two beady eyes :)

pencil sketching
Another pencil sketch cos I havent had time to paint. First attempt at still life since sec school days (I still remember shading cucumbers, apples and brinjals, and getting 5/10), i think it came out pretty ok.

Favourite Artists
Starting to get things up and running. First, I've added links to the pages of some of my most favourite and inspirational artists like Colin Thompson, Chris Van Allsburg and what list would be complete without Quentin Blake?
